Presidents Message
Dear Friend,
Family. The Congregation Beth El Men’s Club is an integral part of the warm, friendly synagogue family that you will meet each time you walk thru our doors. Men’s Club consists of a group of men who join together to share learning, laughter and a love for our synagogue.
Like your own home, Men’s Club prepares the synagogue home for the High Holidays. We volunteer to set up the chairs, change the Siddurim to Mahzorim and set up the Sukkah, so Beth El does not have to pay an outside vendor to perform this vital service. In the spring, we provide an elaborate luncheon for the entire congregation during Pesach at the conclusion of our annual Shabbat service.
Our love for learning is highlighted by the annual World Wide Wrap. On one winter Sunday morning, the Rabbis teach us about the mitzvah of wearing t’fillin. Other educational programs include breakfasts with speakers, evening lectures by our Rabbis and participation in Regional Men’s Club Activities.
With a commitment to the children of our Hebrew school, we join with Sisterhood to provide the Siddurim that the 3rd grade children receive at Hag HaSiddur. The children look forward to our hot dog sales that take place after Sunday school. We also provide funds for special programs to enhance the Hebrew School education of our children.
Celebration and sports play a role in our activities. During Sukkot, we enjoy ‘Schnapps in the Sukkah.’ We get together for dinners at restaurants, enjoy a bowling night with Young Associates, watch Monday Night Football together and we also sponsor two softball teams.
Finally, our fundraising efforts including the Shalach Manot program which we organize with Sisterhood allow us to make a significant financial contribution to the synagogue.
I look forward to welcoming you to the Beth El Family.
Gary I. Shapiro, MD

Men’s Club News – November, 2008
Why should you join Men’s Club? Fun, friends and free breakfasts! We have an active calendar of events and support many activities within the synagogue. We help pay for the Siddurim for 3rd graders, provide Tikkunim for Torah readers, give T’fillin craft sets to the 6th graders to make their own T’fillin, provide bookmarks for Youth Group members, paid membership fees for two softball teams, support “Cook for a Friend,” offer a luncheon for the Congregation during Passover and financially support many other projects at the synagogue and Hebrew School. In addition, we will be a major sponsor of the Beth El Ball. Of course, every bagel and lox breakfast is free to members! Please fill out the membership card that you received in the mail and join Men’s Club. As you can see, your $36 membership dues go a long way to support our children’s activities and the Congregation.
On Saturday, November 15th, we will sponsor a Father/Son event after services: “Touch Football and Light Lunch.” Bring a change of clothes and enjoy food and football on a beautiful fall afternoon. Cost is free! RSVP to Chris Boyd at christoper.boyd@dowjones.com.
On Monday, November 24, join us for our annual Men’s Club/Young Associates Men’s Bowling Night at Playdrome on Kings Highway. Cost is $20 for bowling, shoes, snacks, beverages and billiards. RSVP to Yoel Weiss at yoelweiss@aol.com. .
We will get together to watch Monday Night Football on Monday, December 15th Eagles vs Browns at the home of Alan Kritz, 22 Whitman Avenue, at 8 PM. Cost is $15/per person which includes Kosher wings, beverages and snacks. Due to limited space, this event is open to the first 20 people who RSVP to Alan at 429 – 8995. On Saturday, December 6th, Sisterhood and Men’s Club will sponsor a trip to Singapore Restaurant for dinner followed by the show “Legally Blonde.” Transportation will be provided.
